Cheerleading Levels Explained: Why Do Some Teams Perform More Difficult Stunts Than Others?

You've probably watched two different cheerleading competitions and asked yourself the same question.

In one routine, the athletes perform relatively simple skills.

In the next, they seem to defy gravity with basket tosses, tumbling passes, and spectacular pyramids.

Then you start wondering:"Aren't they doing the same sport?"

The answer is yes.

But not every team competes at the same cheerleading level.

What Are Cheerleading Levels?

Cheerleading levels are a system that classifies teams according to the skills they can safely perform.

Each level defines which stunts, pyramids, tumbling skills, and basket tosses are allowed in competition.

This ensures that teams compete on a level playing field while allowing athletes to progress step by step, without attempting skills they're not yet ready to perform safely.

Why Do Cheerleading Levels Exist?

Imagine a child who has just learned to ride a bike competing against a professional cyclist.

It wouldn't be fair.

The same principle applies in cheerleading.

Cheerleading levels exist to keep athletes safe while allowing every team to develop new skills progressively.

Because in cheerleading, it's not about performing the hardest skill.

It's about performing it correctly.

How Many Cheerleading Levels Are There?

In All Star Cheer, there are several competitive levels, ranging from Level 1 to Level 7.

As athletes move up through the levels, the difficulty of the stunts, tumbling, pyramids, and basket tosses increases. That doesn't mean one team is better than another. It simply means they're at a different stage of their development.

Every level presents its own challenges, and every one of them is equally important.

How Do Athletes Progress Through the Cheerleading Levels?

The answer isn't by training harder.

It's by training smarter.

At Barcelona Bears, our goal isn't to move athletes up to the next level as quickly as possible.

Our goal is to make sure every athlete has mastered each skill before learning the next one.

This step-by-step progression makes training safer and gives every achievement real meaning. Because every advanced stunt begins with a strong foundation.

Every Cheerleading Level Has Its Moment at Barcelona Bears

When you watch a high-level team compete, it's easy to think they've always been able to perform those incredible skills.

But that's not the case.

Every athlete started by learning the basics. Over time, confidence, dedication, and teamwork helped them achieve far more than they ever imagined.

At Barcelona Bears, we believe enjoying the journey is just as important as reaching the next cheerleading level.

What Cheerleading Levels Does Barcelona Bears Offer?

Now you know why cheerleading levels exist and why not every team performs the same skills.

But you're probably wondering something else: If I join Barcelona Bears... what level would I train at?

Do we have Level 1 teams?

What about Level 2?

What if you've never done cheerleading before?

What if you come from artistic gymnastics, tumbling, or parkour?

At Barcelona Bears, we have teams for different ages and skill levels, but the way we organise them might surprise you.

We'll explain everything in the next article.
