What Are the Positions in a Cheerleading Stunt?

When watching a cheerleading stunt, it's easy to focus only on the athlete standing at the very top. However, behind every successful lift is a team working together in perfect coordination to make it happen.
Stunt positions are the foundation of every cheerleading routine. Each athlete has a different role, and every position is equally important in creating a stunt that is safe, stable, and impressive.
🏆 Flyer
The flyer is the athlete who is lifted into the air and performs the most eye-catching skills during a stunt.
Although the flyer often receives the most attention, their performance depends entirely on the coordination, trust, and support of the rest of the team.
👉 In our next blog, you'll discover everything a flyer does and the skills needed to succeed in this position.
💪 Bases
The bases are responsible for lifting, supporting, and stabilizing the flyer throughout the stunt.
Their strength, coordination, and communication allow every stunt to be performed safely and with control.
👉 We'll soon publish a blog dedicated entirely to the role of bases in cheerleading.
🤝 Backspot

The backspot stands behind the stunt group and plays a vital role in keeping everyone safe.
They assist with the lift, help maintain the stunt's stability, and guide the dismount to ensure every movement is performed safely.
👉 A complete guide to the backspot position in cheerleading will be coming soon.
A Stunt Only Works When the Entire Team Works Together
Even though each athlete has a different role, no position is more important than another.
Trust, communication, and teamwork are what truly make every cheerleading stunt successful.
That's why, at Barcelona Bears, we teach every position from the ground up, allowing each athlete to progress at their own pace while always prioritizing proper technique and safety.
